Beginning March 1, 2011, all children 5 years of age and under are required by the state to receive at least 1 dose of the newer Pneumococcal Vaccine (PVC-13). A daycare or school form can not be completed without this vaccine. Most children under the age of 2, if current on their vaccines, have had this dose. Children ages 2-5 who have not recently had a healthcheck may not be current. Please call our office to check if your child has had this vaccine or needs to schedule an appointment.
The American Academy of Pediatrics has issued new guidelines on child passenger safety and car seats. Additional information may be found at http://www.healthychildren.org/English/News/pages/AAP-Updates-Recommendations-on-Car-Seats.aspx
Even though it's cold outside, it's not too early to think about camp and school physicals! Some schools and camps have specific requirements regarding the timing of the check-up so it's not too early to make a plan. We recommend an annual health check- just because your child has been seen for illness doesn't mean he or she has had a well child evaluation.
